This week, I had the opportunity to attend my second CEDIA Business Xchange... and it certainly did not disappoint! If you have not taken time out to attend the Business Xchange, I can't emphasize enough how important they are to the industry and your integration business. To miss the opportunity to candidly discuss the integration business and technology trends with some of the most successful integrators and thought leaders in the industry is really quite unbelievable.
I come from a unique background of having worked in both the Silicon Valley Dot-Com and Military IT environments before coming to the Pro-AV industry. Unlike the Silicon Valley, where everyone secretively 'played their hands close to their vests', the military gatherings I attend consist of Signal Officers getting together and comparing notes of what does and does not work and getting exposed to new technologies and ideas for the greater good of the US Army. The Business Xchange is very much like the latter, where all of us, in the fight of running a business day to day, openly share experiences and ideas for the greater good of our industry.
It is very likely that by not attending the Business Xchange, you missed out on some pertinent and valuable information that could help you propel your business to the next level of growth and sustained profitability.
Ok, time to get off my Business Xchange soap box and jump on my Network Security soap box. The first day at the Business Xchange, we had a technology forum where we broke up in groups and discussed emerging trends and charting them on how likely they were to occur, and how much impact they would have were they to occur.
At the end of our discussion, after tabulating the results, the top result was unanimously decided to be cyber-security. This prompted the leader to conduct a poll of the room; asking "Who here has at the very least a CEDIA Electronic Systems Certified Networking Specialist (ESC-N) on staff". The number of hands raised was appallingly low, which prompted the discussion leader to add the following challenge; "If we all agree that cyber-security is both the most likely thing to affect our industry, and that it will have the most impact... shouldn't we at least train ourselves to handle it?"
At FIREFX, we could not agree more. That is why, in addition to building the only network security appliance to deliver enterprise-level cyber security to the Pro-AV market, we are spearheading the industry training effort by offering a new line of CEDIA certified classes to help train your team on securing business and residential networks at an enterprise-level. Our first class, "CEUP661: Basics of Securing IoT Networks For The Home And Business" is being offered at the following times and locations starting this month.
Course CEUP661 worth .75 CEUs. The Big Book of AV events are open to all and the course is free, so register and sign up for the courses today. This class, along with the rest of the FIREFX Network Security courses will also be available at the CEDIA EXPO in San Diego.
